Chiropractic Adjustments

The term “chiropractic” comes from the Greek words cheir (meaning “hand”) and praktos (meaning “done”), therefore chiropractic means “done by hand.”

Hippocrates is credited with saying, “Look well to the spine for the cause of disease” between 460-375 BC.

The chiropractic profession recognizes the vital link between the brain’s central processing of all information and control with the rest of the body (pain, sensations, organs, systems, etc.).

Look well to the spine for the cause of disease.

-Hippocrates

The brain and spinal cord (central nerve system) is surrounded and protected by the bones of the spine. However, misalignments of the spinal bones can create pressure or pinching on the nerves (called subluxations) which could lead to pain or dysfunction of the body. Not all bony misalignments produce pain which is why it is important to have a Doctor of Chiropractic evaluate the condition of your spine.

Chiropractic adjustments are performed in a variety of ways. Traditionally, adjustments are “done by hand” through various techniques that may utilize direct pressure on your body or use of a specialized chiropractic table. Other chiropractic adjustments can be performed with tools and instruments (Activator, Arthrostim, blocks and wedges, etc.) that have been developed within the profession to achieve the same results.

At Trinity Chiropractic, Dr. Johns uses both gentle hands-on techniques and a variety of tools and instruments appropriate for the condition that a patient may have.

Misalignments of the spinal bones can create pressure or pinching on the nerves (subluxations) which could lead to pain or dysfunction of the body.

You can always discuss the types of techniques that may be used for your treatment with the doctor beforehand of you have any questions.

Dr. Johns will perform an analysis of your spine or extremity and identified the underlying root causes and conditions of your problem(s). The goal of treatment is always to address the most immediate concerns which are usually pain.

Chiropractic adjustments alone cannot “take away pain” but are performed to correct the problem. Pain relief is usually a result of these corrections but may not be immediate.

When an adjustment is performed, the harmful misalignment of the bone and pressure on the nerve system (subluxation) is removed to allow your body to start functioning normally again.

Chiropractic care is safe and effective for all ages and life circumstances. Dr. Johns is trained to work with infants, pregnant women, elderly, or specific conditions such as car accident injuries (whiplash), sports injuries, bulging or herniated disc problems, and more. Dr. Johns is a member of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) and is certified in the Webster Technique which has been shown to help relieve intra-uterine constraint in pregnant moms. This technique has been shown to be a great natural solution for a breech presentation during pregnancy.
